About Monica Tomatis

A Journey of Discovery

For prep school, I attended Istituto Magistrale Berti High from 1979 to 1983, and then went on to the University of Turin, Italy, studying Languages and Foreign Literature, 1983-1988.

In 1987, I went to work at L’Oreal Cosmetics Corporation as an Employee Educational Trainer and I left that post in 2006 to move to Canada to be with my Canadian husband.

In the year 2000, I began investigating the world of well-being and personal growth with the practice of Ashtanga Yoga (the Eight-Limbed Yoga). I had the good fortune to immediately find an excellent teacher. Sandro introduced me to not only the physical (asanas) practice, but to the whole philosophy of yoga, which integrates body, mind and spirit. True yoga (“to yoke”, to join with the Divine) is a discipline, even a Spiritual practice, or Sadhana, and not simply methodical repetition of learned physical techniques. It involves the constant application of certain higher principles and the ability to catch, in any circumstance or situation, the precious teachings offered by life.

As a student of yoga I attended various courses in meditation at the Ananda Ashram in Italy, plus Yoga Therapy (from Dr. M. V, Bhole), and then attending an intense program to become Yoga Teacher at the Swami Gitananda Ashram in Italy. The Ashram became for me an ideal location for the revitalization of my energies as well as a center that facilitated my journey of inner spiritual research.

During this time, I also took workshops in Transformational Breath, also studying and practicing the method described in Louise Hay’s workshop, Heal Your Life. Both courses taught me powerful features and practical techniques to identify and clear out long-held anger, tension or stress that is commonly stored in the body as a result of mental, emotional or physical trauma.

When I moved to Canada, I started to study Botanical Medicine, one of the oldest continuously practiced forms of health care on the planet. I became a Master Herbalist at Wild Rose College of Natural Healing, where I had extensive training in Clinical Practice, Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Physical assessment, Biochemistry, Botany, Materia Medica, Iridology, Philosophy of Herbal Medicine, and Nutrition.

After graduation, I started in practice of Natural Healing, using Iridology and Sclerology as my main techniques of health evaluation. My Sclerology studies were with Leonard Mehlmauer, ND, in San Diego.
